Pairing 2008 will be held at Royal Holloway, University of London in UK. The campus of Royal Holloway is located near Egham, Surrey.
The train journey from central London (Waterloo station) to Egham station takes approximately 40 minutes. It is then a 20 minute walk from the train station to the campus, or a short taxi ride. Taxis are usually available at Egham station.
International visitors are likely to arrive at either Heathrow or Gatwick airports. There are regular bus services from Heathrow that stop at Royal Holloway. These depart either from the Central bus station near terminals 1, 2 and 3 (London and Country service 441), or from the new Terminal 5 bus station (First service 71). Another, faster option is to take a taxi from the airport. We highly recommend that, to reduce the cost of the taxi, you pre-book with one of the local taxi companies. We recommend Gemini cars, who offer a pick-up service from all the Heathow and Gatwick terminals.
Using the train to reach Egham from Gatwick airport is also feasible, with a change of trains at Clapham Junction. Train timetables can be found here - please note that there is usually a limited service on Sundays.
For visitors arriving at other London airports (e.g. Stanstead, Luton, London City), considerable allowance should be made for travel time from the airport on to Royal Holloway, especially if arriving on Sunday.
For visitors from France and the Benelux countries, using the Eurostar train is an attractive option. If you are arriving by train from continental Europe, your destination will be London St. Pancras station. We recommend that from there you transfer to the London Underground Victoria Line, heading south (towards Brixton). You should change at Vauxhall to connect with the overground service to Egham. Please specify Egham when buying your ticket at St. Pancras - you will then receive a single ticket that is valid on both the underground and overground portions of your journey.
